Process of Lightning

Thunder or lightning is an electrical discharge that occurs between the powerful storm clouds or in the clouds and only between the earth's surface. Thunder is a sound shock waves caused by lightning or lightning heats the surrounding air and develop. One of the most interesting weather phenomena to be observed is a thunder storm, when lightning and thunder hit the ground causing a thunderous sound. Possibility struck by lightning are very small, but every year there are people who died because of a lightning strike. In the United States each year about 100 people died due to lightning, lightning also sparked forest fires. The occurrence of lightning by one theory is because the air is moving in the storm clouds cause water droplets and ice particles collide and become electrically charged static. Positively charged particles that is floating near the top of the cloud and negatively charged particles larger at the bottom of the cloud, then the charges are unstable join. So that the negative charge towards the positive charge nearest jump and this is what causes lightning.

Various types of lightning occurs in different places and are often seen in the form sinuous lines are bright in the sky. extensive lightning (lightning with fire jump width) is a great light that seemed to fill the whole sky. Forked lightning occurs when electrical sparks jump from cloud to ground.

When released from a cloud, lightning produces high heat about 20,000 degrees Celsius, making the air suddenly expands and produces a loud sound we call thunder. Light travels at a speed of 300,000 km / sec, while the sound is much slower that the speed of 330 m / sec. You will always see lightning first and then we will hear the thunder. If you can count five seconds between the flash of lightning and thunder storm is 1.6 km far from you.

Lightning or thunder is always interested in the piece of metal that taper. Therefore many tall buildings have a metal spear in the roof (called a lightning rod) are connected with less wire to the ground. This wire serves to focus lightning while grabbing the direction of the building so that the flow of electricity will be supplied to the soil.

How lightning is formed when warm moist air rising to form storm clouds that occur inside a process called charge separation. Water droplets and ice rub against each other and become electrically charged static. Particles are negatively charged gathered at the base of the cloud, making cloud tops and the positively charged surface of the earth. A current movement - the main stroke - occurs between clouds and the ground. When electrons meet with a positive charge, a strong electric current - strike back - carry a positive charge up to the cloud.
